I Opened a Redbubble Shop
In late 2022, my husband and I had a brainstorming session regarding the future of my creative endeavors. One rainy Sunday in December, over our afternoon tea, we went through the work I had produced during the year. I'd had a few people express interest in buying pieces, after sharing them on social media, and we both felt it was time to seriously explore ways of making my art available for purchase, but were unsure of which platform and method would be best for our situation. I had done research in the past, but nothing had seemed to be a good fit, for one reason or another.
In early January of 2023, we decided to take a closer look at print-on-demand sites, specifically Redbubble. It looked promising and fit our specifications so, after more detailed research, and a bit more discussion, we decided I should try it. I spent a couple of weeks getting things organized and set up and, in early February, launched my shop. As it turns out, I quite enjoy designing products, and it is rewarding to see my pieces as prints. It is also exciting to have a shop to direct people to, if they are interested in purchasing any of my artwork.
If there is anyone out there who is on the fence about trying Redbubble as a selling platform, here are a few things to consider: It is completely free, so there is no financial risk. The listings do not expire, and you can spend as little or as much time as you like curating your shop. It is low-impact, user-friendly, and a great creative outlet for your work.
What I learned from my Redbubble experience (as well as from my continued efforts in submitting art to agencies, publishers, and greeting card companies), is that you have less time for creating art when you decide to put yourself and your work out there. Luckily, in regards to my shop, I had a huge backlog of material, so adding new pieces on a regular basis has not been a problem. Having the luxury of seemingly endless time to pick up my pens and brushes is gone, but I get real satisfaction from the non-art tasks that go with working to get my art seen. With the recent addition of my Redbubble shop, my days are filled with a variety of tasks, which means if I need a break from one thing, I can easily transition to another and still feel productive.
So, with that, if you are so inclined, I invite you to take a look at my shop! And if you are an artist looking for a simple, no-cost way to sell your work, I would recommend giving Redbubble a try.
